A La Jolla Family’s Video Portrait, Filmed 11 Days Before a Beloved Matriarch’s Passing, Underscores the Value of Preserving Life Stories

With one in four Californians projected to be 60 or older by 2030, Legacy Video Pros founder Sean Taylor is helping families preserve their stories on film

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — September 2026 — California is undergoing a historic demographic shift. For the first time, residents age 60 and older now outnumber those under 18, and by 2030, one in four Californians is projected to be 60 or older, according to the State of California.

As families navigate that shift, a growing niche of filmmakers is helping them preserve something that can’t be recovered once it’s gone: the voices, stories, personalities and memories of parents and grandparents. Sean Taylor, founder of Los Angeles-based Legacy Video Pros, spent nearly two decades working in film and television, on productions including Warner Bros.’ Man of Steel, 20th Century Fox’s Night at the Museum II, and the television series Six Feet Under and Stargate SG-1, before spending a decade producing video content at Universal Music Group.

Today, he applies that production experience to documentary-style legacy films designed to preserve family histories for future generations.

Taylor began recording his own family members and preserving their stories on video in 2012, a personal project that grew into Legacy Video Pros.

One recent project brought the importance of that work into unexpected focus.

On October 5, 2025, Taylor traveled to La Jolla to interview 94-year-old Jorge Limón and his wife, Brunie, 80, for a legacy film commissioned by Jorge’s son, Al. Over the course of the day, Taylor recorded Jorge and Brunie both individually and together as they reflected on their lives, their family and their years together.

Eleven days later, Brunie passed away unexpectedly in her sleep.

Now, as the one-year anniversary of that loss approaches in October, Taylor believes the Limóns’ story speaks to something much larger already unfolding across California.

“Meeting Brunie and having the opportunity to preserve her story was something I’ll never forget,” Taylor said. “She had lived an extraordinary life — as a painter, model, musician, dancer and businesswoman, as well as a wife and mother — and she had an infectious laugh that immediately drew you in. None of us imagined she would be gone just 11 days after we filmed her interview. Being able to preserve her stories, her voice and that wonderful laugh for her family was both heartbreaking and deeply inspiring, and a profound reminder of why this work matters.”

The completed film preserves Jorge’s story alongside Brunie’s — their memories, personalities and shared history captured in their own voices. What began as a celebration of two lives together also became an unexpected record of Brunie during the final days of her life. The family later gathered to watch the finished film together.

For Taylor, the experience reinforced a lesson he first encountered while recording his own family: photographs and written histories can preserve what someone looked like and what they accomplished, but video can preserve something different — how they spoke, how they told a story, the expressions on their faces and the sound of their laughter.

As California’s older population continues to grow, Taylor believes more families are beginning to think about preserving those intangible pieces of family history while they still have the opportunity. Legacy Video Pros creates films ranging from shorter life-story portraits to full-length documentary-style biographies, incorporating interviews, family photographs, home movies and other personal archives.
